While only six months remain from the expected sale of “GTA6 ” , its developer, Rockstar Gomes, has recently fallen into a vortex of labour disputes. This week, between 30 and 40 employees were dismissed from the British and Canadian offices in the workshop, and they were reportedly dismissed from the union.
According to Bloomberg, laid-off employees participate in a private trade union group on the Discord platform. The British Independent Trade Union spokesperson confirmed that the members of the group included admitted employees and activists who were organizing trade unions within R Star. The British Independent Trade Union alleged that the move was a “manifest” anti-union act, an allegation denied by Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interact, and stated that the employees had been dismissed for misconduct. “Rockstar has committed the most blatant and ruthless anti-union act in the history of the game,” said Alex Marshall, President of the Independent Trade Union, in his statement, which condemned “this blatant contempt for the law and the lives of billions of workers, which is an insult to global players and the game industry”.
The spokesperson for the home company Take-Two Interactive, R, declared his support for the decision to dismiss the employees, alleging that they had been dismissed for “serious misconduct for no other reason”. Notably, the recent job announcement by Rockstar Gomes predicted that GTA6 would create “the largest distribution in the history of the game”. This is true given the fact that ” Manhunter Five ” has surpassed 215 million sales at the beginning of the year and that ” GTA Online ” continues to generate huge revenues for the company. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnik had previously stated that he was not concerned that AI technology posed a competitive threat to GTA and had consistently evaluated the technology.
